Psychotherapy and Psychoanalysis
in New York City
I have been in practice for over 45 years, witnessing firsthand the profound evolution of psychotherapy. In the past 25 years, advances in developmental research, modern thinking, and neuroscience have reshaped our understanding of emotional healing. I have been part of this transformation.

When I first trained, psychotherapy was thought to be at the cutting edge—rooted in the belief that if a therapist could analyze a patient’s history and explain what went wrong, insight alone would lead to healing. How wrong we were. While intellectual understanding is valuable, it does not necessarily bring emotional relief.
We now know true healing happens when a person feels deeply heard and recognized. This, combined with insight, fosters genuine well-being.

Why psychotherapy?
Feeling truly heard and understood is essential for emotional well-being. When we are not, it can lead to anxiety, self-doubt, and a deep sense of unease. This distress is difficult to endure, often driving people to seek relief in ways that may temporarily numb the pain but ultimately cause more harm.

Psychotherapy helps break this cycle by providing a space where you are genuinely seen and understood, fostering lasting change from within.
